Frequently Asked Questions
How much notice is needed for delivery?
For construction, usually, 1 days’ notice is sufficient but as much notice as possible is always appreciated.
Events, however – the bigger the event the more notice we need. Although if you are last minute
give us a call and we will try our best to accommodate you.
Can we service your own chemical toilet / welfare unit / holding tank on site?
Yes, we offer servicing on your own units as well as the units hired from us.
How do the chemical toilets work?
The standard chemical units are self-contained. They have a 60 gallon waste tank with flusher.
They do not need to be connected to mains water or electricity.
On delivery, they come with water and chemical in the tank to breakdown waste and mask odours.
On service days, the waste is removed and fresh chemical and water is added.
Mains units – these are connected to mains water so no servicing is required on these.
Holding tanks – these can be connected to toilet blocks / welfare units.
What is included in hire cost?
Units going out on long term hire include a weekly service on our schedule.
Service includes waste removal, replenishment of loo roll and a power wash inside in the unit.
Where can the loo be placed?
The units must be placed on a flat level surface.
They can be moved a max of 15ft from drop off point.
They must be accessible to our service trucks at all times.
How many toilets will I need?
Recommendations for site
British Standard BS6465 recommend that there is one toilet for every seven workers where once a week servicing is provided and this has since been adopted by Portable Sanitation Europe Ltd (PSE) as being ‘Best Practice’. (see attached d002-_british_standard_bs6465)
For events, Health and safety recommend that there is 1 toilet per 100 people.
This covers an event that lasts approx. 8 hrs.
Although, the number of portable toilets needed will depend on a few things.
1. Type of event being held. If it is a family day / gathering, baby changing facilities might be
something to consider.
2. The size of your event space? Is the event out your back garden or at a local GAA club.
3. How many people will be attending? Is it a small garden party with 40 guests or a local
festival with 1000 guests.
4. How long will the event be on for? Is the event on for approx. 8hrs during the day or in the
evening or over the course of a weekend? Friday / Saturday & Sunday? If so, servicing of the
units will have to be considered.
5. Will there be food and drink served?
6. Will there be alcohol served? (Guests drinking alcohol are more likely to use toilet facilities
than those who don’t. This is because alcohol is a diuretic, this means it promotes water loss
through urine.)
Are there lights in the toilets?
Our toilets are fitted with a translucent roof to maximise natural incoming light.
Can I purchase the units?
Unfortunately, we don’t sell units.
